This poem is composed by Walt Whitman. Walt Whitman (1819-1892) was an American poet, essayist and journalist.

Stanza -1
And who art thou? said I to the soft-falling shower,
Which, strange to tell, gave me an answer, as here translated:
कवि अपनी कल्पना का प्रयोग करते हुए कहता है कि एक दिन उसने आसमान से गिरती हुई हलकी फुहार में एक बूँद से पूछा कि तुम कौन हो ?बारिश की बूँद ने इस प्रश्न का उत्तर अजीब तरीके से दिया , जिसे कवि ने पाठकों के लिए अनुवादित किया है।
Stanza -2
I am the Poem of Earth, said the voice of the rain,
Eternal I rise impalpable out of the land and the
bottomless sea,
Upward to heaven, whence, vaguely form’d, altogether
changed, and yet the same,
बारिश की बूँद कहती है कि मैं पृथ्वी की कविता अर्थात सुन्दर गीत हूँ। युगों युगों से मैं अनछुए यानि वाष्प रूप में इस धरती और अथाह गहरे समुद्र से उठती हूँ और ऊपर आकाश में विलीन हो जाती हूँ। जहाँ पर अस्पष्ट तरीके से मेरा नव निर्माण होता है। बूँद कहती है कि उसका स्वरूप पूरी तरह बदल जाने के बाद भी वह उसी रूप में ही बनी रहती है।
Stanza-3
I descend to lave the droughts, atomies, dust-layers of
the globe,
And all that in them without me were seeds only, latent,
unborn;
And forever, by day and night, I give back life to my
own origin,
And make pure and beautify it;
बारिश की बूँद आगे कहती है कि फिर वह आकाश से नीचे उतरती है ताकि धरती के सूखे मैदानों , धुल के छोटे छोटे कणों को पानी से सिंचित कर सके। उसके बिना पृथ्वी की सतह में छिपे हुए बीज हमेशा के लिए सुप्त और अजन्मे ही रह जाएंगे। इस प्रकार दिन रात अथक प्रयास से वह उन बीजों में जीवन का संचार करती है और एक प्रकार से स्वयं के अस्तित्व को ही जन्म देती है। तथा पूरी सृष्टि को शुद्ध और सुन्दर भी बनाती है

इन पंक्तियों में कवि अपनी तरफ से कहता है कि इस प्रकार बारिश की बूंद अपने जन्म स्थान से ही एक गीत प्रस्तुत करती है ।अपने पूरे जीवन चक्र को पूरा करती हुए वापिस प्यार और सम्मान सहित अपने मूल स्थान पर लौट आती है ।चाहे हम गिरती हुई बूंद की ओर कोई ध्यान दे या ना दे , बूंद को इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता। भाव रूप में इसका अर्थ यह भी है कि कवि अपने मन की गहराइयों में एक सुन्दर गीत अनुभव करता है और बारिश की बूँद की तरह वह गीत भी अपना चक्र पूरा करते हुए वापिस कवि के हृदय में समा जाता है। कवि को भी इस बात से कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता है कि कोई उसके गीत की तरफ ध्यान दे या न दे।

Ans-In a rainy day, the poet asked the soft-falling shower," Who are you ?" He was filled with wonder when the shower gave him an answer. It was strange to tell for the poet.

Ans- The last two lines are not the voice of the rain. They are the poet's comment on music. These lines have no connection with the main idea of the poem. So these lines have been put within brackets.
